1 Tom is the main carachter of the story. He is a strong determined kid. He takes every day at a time and takes everthing fo granted. In the part of the book that i am up to. Tom's dad dies so he is in a bad sate of mind. He does not care about his life or anyone. He is scared of his cruel but nice master.

2 Toms dad was sentenced to the stocks for a week. His dad is batted and bruised and he died on the Thursday at lunch time in the stocks by bullies who through rocks at him. Mr.Tupper the local father took tom to the magistrates then the magistrate told Mr.Tupper to take him to the work house. It was half an hour by horse and cart. He got there and went through the kitchenand to an office that smelt like soot. the mans name was Mr. something and made him meet the others.
